If you discontinue awake long enough to rep Adult Swim on Cartoon Network Sunday nights (starts around 10:30 p.m. CST, my frail time zone- now I’m on the east sail, and everything starts an hour later), check out “Sealab 2021″. It’s a spoof off the ragged 1972 cartoon “Sealab 2020″, except that the current ’72 crew has been replaced by a bunch of lunatics who probably shouldn’t be allowed out of doors. Perhaps that’s why they’ve been confined to an underwater lab where they can’t afflict anybody (well, almost anybody) . We proper fans have long awaited Adult Swim gems to approach on DVD, and with “Sealab 2021″, you come by the following eppys:

*I, ROBOT- News of a monkey whose brain has been implanted in a robot prompts the crew to have a long-winded “discussion” about the fate of their hold brains.

*HAPPYCAKE- Captain Murphy is devestated to gather his beloved Satisfied Cake Oven is missing, and orders the crew, along with a Jacques Cousteau-like narrator, to search the waters for it. Meanwhile, a giant squid endangers the life of the crew; or as the narrator sees it, “uses it’s tentacles to cradle me like a Mother’s arms”.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sealab 2021 – Season 1! Click Here

*RADIO FREE SEALAB- Captain Murphy is bored and decides to spend the lab’s emergency radio beacon for a pirate radio position, starring as “Howling Aroused” Murphy.

*CHICKMATE- Debbie questions the male crewmembers to view who will form the best Father for the baby she wants immediately, and Stormy almost learns a distinguished lesson in run relations.

*LOST IN TIME- Bizarre episode in which Stormy and Dr. Quinn are mysteriously transported 15 minutes support in time to assign Sealab from an explosion- even though the same explosion happens again, starting the vicious cycle all over again.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sealab 2021 – Season 1! Click Here

*PREDATOR- There’s an invisible yet shimmery ghoul aboard Sealab that has the crew cowering in the corners. It’s up to Dr. Quinn (with Dolphin Boy as bait) to choose the fiend.

*LITTLE ORPHAN ANGRY- Griffin, a terminally ill orphan, comes aboard Sealab to live out his dream. But Griffin’s heart is not as pure as everyone thinks. Meanwhile, Capt. Murphy morphs into a germ-a-phobe freak as he fears a Bubonic Plague outbreak.

*WAKING QUINN- The eppy is a bit hard to follow- Stormy wants to prove Dr. Quinn his original hairdryer while Quinn is in the water- yes, Dr. Quinn is electrocuted and bizarre happenings are afoot.

*ALL THAT JAZZ- In one of the funniest episodes, Capt. Murphy gets trapped underneath the BeBop Cola machine. Unfortunately for him, everyone else is at a concert. A year transpires before he is found, and in that time he loses all his teeth and becomes addicted to scorpion venom.

*MURPHY MURPH AND THE FENG SHUI BUNCH- This is my all-time fave eppy. Capt. Muprhy is dissatisfied with the disharmoy of the Sealab decor. He hires an extortionate Feng Shui “master” to redecorate everything- but “Master Loo” is a con artist who convinces the crew to choose his crap oragami and persuades Murphy to employ $50,000 on a solid gold toilet. Ofcourse, only Dr. Quinn sees through him.

*IN THE CLOSET- Capt. Murphy gets everyone stlocked in a closet, and tempers open to flare.

*STIMUTACS- The ver witty Sparks has near up with a fresh drug that everyone wants, but the side effects are grotesque- and additctive.

*SWIMMING IN OBLIVION- A compliation of past episodes dominates this season finaale, including the informercials for the “Debbie Gone Wild!” DVD’s.

Some of Sealab’s best episodes were in it’s first season, and thankfully they’re all here.

Incredibly amusing point to. Some of us older folks might remeber the origional prove, sealab 2020, quite possibly THE worst cartoon ever made. Belive you me, 2021 is nothing like its counterpart.

2021 starts off by using archaic animations from the origional, and redubbing it with a VERY talented area of drawl actors, including Ellis Henican, writer for Unusual York Newsday, Erik Estrada, and of course the story himself, Harry Goz(Fiddler on the roof, chess, many other stage productions. R.I.P.

Abstract humor fueled with social commentary and references to many many classic movies and shows(after watching all that jazz, check out disneys “Shadowy hole” and discover for the “toaster looking” robot who tries to befriend the trapped captin)

The dvd itself is proper, but perhaps a bit lacking on features, but for purists like me, im buying the disc for the reveal, not the dvd extras. The pitch pilot is a must perceive. The exhibit is a 5/5, but the disc i’d say maybe 4/5. The lack of extra’s is due to how AdultSwim is marketing the disc. If you remember ATHF vol1 had few extras as they wanted to eye how well it sold before going extra crazy, like they did with vol2. I’d put a question to the same for Sealab vol2.

Highly recommended to fans of the simpsons, Family Guy and Futurama.

Oh and for people who write reviews without any knowledge of the explain, Yeah, there are 38+ episodes(newest season is quiet airing),not only about a dozen

Customer Reviews:

Great camera, but motion triggered recording needs work3
We have several of these cameras mounted on the walls throughout the office. In standard view they have a very wide field of view and then of course you can pan, tilt and zoom manually. With the old firmware I was able to zoom into an area and record only that area. Tech support had me upgrade the firmware without warning me that I’d lose that ability. Now the cameras only record on the standard wide view. In this view you capture more than you may want to and it’s hard to tell who the people are. That’s my first gripe. My second one is the motion triggered recording. Whether I use the camera’s built in motion detection capability or the Camera Station management software, it’s very difficult to program it to record exactly what you want to record. I either get continuous recording in the light or dark, or both, or not enough motion is recorded (the person is too far away, or slow moving). You would think if I set each camera on the exact same settings they would each record the same amount of movement but that’s not true. I think the flourescent lights in the office make it worse. To be on the safe side I make sure the cameras are at least recording nothing so we don’t miss anything (they record at night only for security). From there I continually tweak the settings and now have a few that record only motion in the light or dark. However most still record more than necessary, eating up disk space.

“The bird fights its contrivance out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first kill a world. The bird flies to God. That God’s name is Abraxas.”

Does this speech sound familiar? Most Utena fans will gawk it as similar to the speech the Duelists disclose as they waddle up the elevator. Actaully, it is a passage from Hermann Hesse’s novella, “Demian”, which is about a boy coming to terms with his sexuality and God as he grows up. The novella was one of the series’ inspiration, along with Rose of Versallies. In fact, the music as the Duelists plod in the elevator is called “A Prayer to Abraxas”, demonstrating the depth to which the series was influnced by this classical literary work.

Growing up and sheading the psyhcological shells and needs of childhood is one of the major themes of the series. Dealing with the psychological wounds of children who were injured when no one was there to protect them is another. These are only two of the themes expressed in this immensely complex series. Anyone who sees it as a melodramatic girlie anime first of all has not seen the entire series and secondly is only viewing it on the most narrow and surface level.

Having said that, this volume is an introduction to the Shadowy Rose Arc, and like all things in Utena it takes a puny bit to come by into it, and the comedy episode in this volume is particularly outlandish. But the episode that follows is very rewarding to the state line once you pick up past the cow episode. Do stick with it, the series and the arc are well worth it as the myth unfolds. The symbolism and the themes already touched on in the first arc deepen in the Shaded Rose. The waste of this arc is particularly mind bending and symbolically complex.

Enjoy!

Charles Solomon’s review (the one under the product) for this edition of Utena is insulting to the people who would recall this item and I reflect you should assume it off and replace it with another “Editorial review” because he clearly has no moral appreciation of Utena and will not inspire *anyone* to purchase it with his tactless, misinformed ideas about it. Factual Utena lovers will discard his review as nonsensical and a grand heaping load of BS from an outsider who we should pity because he will never fully understand the compelling, scintillating and undeniable genius of Chiho Saito’s Shoujo Kakumei Utena. I doubt he even watched this anime all the blueprint through. He probably watched this edition only and didn’t even bother with the other tapes in which case he is not wonderful to write a profitable review. Otaku’s and anime enthusiasts pay no stamp to his misinformed review. This next Utena is unbiased as fabulous as the rest and you MUST contemplate the rest in order to fully bask in this. As for the EDITORIAL REVIEW – SHOUJO means it’s targeted for girls… young girls… How the heck would that ‘guy’ know what we believe about this (Masterpiece of an) anime or what we feel about it? … because it’s not Shakespeare doesn’t mean it isn’t a rich tapestry of emotions and drama. Hmph. Kiss my Revolution!

Girls 13 and up – this anime is expansive but just it is not for everyone as I’m clear many other reviewers as have mentioned…

The characters are complex, the sage is NOTHING like the movie, the graphic novels are awesome, but recognize Utena in sequence if you want to gain the most enjoyment out of it. The ‘hokiness’ of it is the best fragment about Utena. When Touga and Miki and Juri go onto the elevator and originate to recite their demolish of the world theme it brings a smile to my face everytime I net on an elavator cause I unbiased wanna recite his “We are the chick!” speech. Utena is not as dreadful as Sailor Moon. She’s not ditzy, loud or contaminated. She’s actually a likeable and a STRONG female character…. obviously this editorial reviewer unprejudiced couldn’t handle the belief of a strong woman.

The Last Days of Patton

I’m recommending this movie because it brings closure to Patton’s life. If you enjoyed the first movie, Patton, you owe it to yourself to peer this one even if it is flawed. Though I was disappointed with this film, I wanted more at the extinguish. I felt the flashbacks did not go deep enough into his early life. It was almost as if this film came from scenes slit from the first movie, which won eight Academy Awards, and the flashbacks were filmed later and spliced in. Because of this, The Last Days of Patton dragged at times. The producer and director should have do more time into the flashbacks. This might have remedied that jam. It’s too poor that Patton died before he had a chance to retire and write his epic. Since he was the type of man who spoke out about what he believed (which got him in grief more than once even if he was factual most of the time), his narrative would have been a gigantic read. We can only imagine what the world would be like today if those in power had listened to him and gone on to defeat Russia. There would have been no Cool War, no Korea, no Vietnam and possibly no war with Islamic terrorists.

I downloaded this movie from Amazon for my husband who is a broad Patton fan. I figured this movie would brighten him. I watched the movie this morning.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Last Days Of Patton! Click Here

The acting is worthy, as is expected from the cast, and the first hour is chubby of suspense and build-up. We discover the tension between Eisenhower and Patton, we study Patton’s respect for the German prisoners, and we learn about Patton’s distaste for the Russians. But did Eisenhower want to hear that? No, he instead “transferred” him to a “paper Army” (Patton’s words) where we observe his depression initiate to mount.

The accident happens in the second hour, but the last 90 minutes shuffle and skedaddle. The last 90 minutes we inspect Patton slowly fading in mind and body as he lays in his hospital bed. Gone are his wit and acuteness. All the viewer has now is the dialogue of the supporting actors, which is tedious at best. The slay finale then comes abruptly as he dies and the camera lights depart and zoom out from his bed.

As for production and connectivity, my download connection rated “abominable” to “edifying” for most of the viewing, showing one to two bars under the “connection” meter. Four bars is best. Sometimes the movie froze while the connection reconnected. But the dreadful connection did not hamper my viewing of this downloaded movie. I paid for this download what I pay in town for a week-long movie rental, so I am delighted.

Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM. This super-wide angle lens has a maximum aperture of F3.5 throughout the entire zoom range. With its wide angle view from 102.4 degrees it can produce striking images with exaggerated perspective. The maximum aperture of F3.5 is ideal for indoor shooting and it enables photographers to emphasize the subject. Two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element provide excellent correction of color aberration. Four aspherical lenses provide correction for distortion and allow compact and lightweight construction. The Super Multi-Layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet and high-speed auto focus as well as full-time manual focusing capability. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 9.4 inches (24cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.6. The lens design incorporates an inner focusing system which eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the Petal-type hood and polarizing filter. The Petal-type hood blocks extraneous light and reduces internal reflection.

Outstanding lens5
When I bought the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras 14 months ago, I didn’t know what to expect. I never used a 3rd party lens or an ultra wide-angle, but I quickly learned to love the lens and the opportunities it created. Having said goodbye to the lens a week ago (still kicking), I decided to give this new slightly faster model for a spin.

Currently reviews or even sample photos are sparse, and even some details seem elusive, so lets start in the beginning:

* Like the predecessor, this model features HSM, so all Nikon DSLR users can benefit from this lens (D700, D3, and D3x users will only get a cropped view)
* Also like its predecessor, its a hefty well-built lens that’s made in Japan
* It’s comparable in size and weight to the original, but the 82mm front threads take some getting used to
* While the older model did not extend at 10mm and extended barely at the “long” end, the new one is flush from 16-13mm, and extends slightly at both the wide and the long end.
* the EX finish is a tad more refined, and it now features an AF/MF switch (full time override is available in AF). The focus ring is somewhat stiff, but has a nice movement to it. AF is blazing!
* Sigma seems to have revised the rear element a bit with an added piece of plastic to minimize reflections
* You also get an extra aperture blade for better bokeh and much better sunstars
* Just in case you are wondering, this lens works just like a Nikon lens with full functionality

I’ll post photos, but in general its the equal or better to the earlier lens. At the wide end the extra 1/3 stop is barely worth mentioning, but at the wide end, you get 1 1/3 stop more light. The changes do go beyond that, as there now is ELD glass as well as SLD (in the previous version), and there is more aspheric glass. If this doesn’t mean anything to you, just know this all helps it be a great lens!

This is a very challenging focal length to design for, especially if cost and size are a concern, so there is no perfect lens in this range. That being said, Sigma seemed to have used their experience with a previous 10-20mm to create a highly refined and very capable lens. If shooting at f/3.5 you will see some softness in the corners, but frankly it’s not that limiting. Stopping down to f/5.6 helps a lot with gains in between, and it peeks at f/8-11 (maybe f/13 on a 6mp sensor).

Coming from an 18-## zoom? You’ll get a whole new perspective, an opportunity to explore a new world of photography, and get to work with a lens of much better construction than a kit lens.

Coming from another ultra-wide angle? It may not be worth the switch (I sold my other one for a variety of reasons), but you almost get the speed of the Tokina AT-X116PRDXN AT-X PRO DX 11-16mm Ultra-wide Angle Lens for Nikon and you get a faster aperture and more useful zoom range than first gen ultra-wides such as the Nikon 12-24mm f/4G ED IF Autofocus DX Nikkor Zoom Lens or Tokina AT-XAF124DXN 12-24mm Wide-Angle Lens for Nikon.

Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 vs Nikon 16-85 3.5-5.6 VR II5
I compared performance and test images taken with the Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 against my Nikon 16-85 VRII, which I consider to be my sharpest lens. The photos were taken with a Nikon D5000, tripod mounted, no digital sharpening, of fixed targets on my living room wall at about six feet. The targets consisted of newspaper at the corners and a large US map in the center, with a variety of detail and some color. Illumination was provided by house lamps and a photo flood light. The photos were compared side by side at 200% enlargement.

The Sigma 10-20 was not as sharp as the Nikon 16-85 in the very center of the image at comparable focal lengths (16mm and 20mm) and apertures, although was very close by f/5 and nearly the same at f/8. At the edges of the image however, the Sigma 10-20 was as sharp or sharper and had better contrast at all f-stops tested (3.5-8). I have no lens to compare the Sigma 10-20 to at shorter focal lengths but Imaging Resource tests indicate good to very good sharpness, similar to the older Sigma 10-20.

Focus speed with the Sigma 10-20 is very fast and quiet, similar to the Nikon 16-85. There is some variation in auto focus reproducibility but seems to be within a reasonable margin of error and will likely not be noticable in most photographs. The zoom action of the Sigma is smoother than the Nikon. The lens is somewhat larger and heavier than the Nikon.

Chromatic aberration/color fringing has been reported as being an issue with many wide angle lenses, including this lens. I will comment on this after shooting some high contrast scenes outdoors if I feel it is significant.

This is my second copy of the lens. The first copy appeared to have a slight back focus problem at 10mm at short focal distances as indicated by variations in auto focus performance vs manual focus to achieve optimal sharpness. Optically, the first copy appeared as sharp as this one and likely would have been acceptable to most users.

First edit 9-30-09: Outdoor shots posted in the gallery. The lens performed well in the field yielding good color and contrast. Flaring is visible as the lens is tilted towards the sun. I used my baseball cap to shade the lens and would also recommend the lens hood in most situations. At 10mm, sharpness is acceptable at f3.5 in the center and quite soft at the edges. Sharpness at the edges seems fairly good by f4.5. Color fringing is quite evident in high contrast areas near the edges of the image however it was not so bright as to apppear in uncorrected 8×10 prints. Also it was quite easy to reduce the fringing to a non-issue with CA correction using Adobe CS4. Auto focus was accurate. Overall I’m quite pleased with this lens and I’d say it outperforms my expectations for sharpness and vignetting but I wish the CA was better controlled. I will keep this lens, however the older version (f4-5.6) is reported to be as good or perhaps better in some respects so I’d recommend the f3.5 lens only if the constant aperature is of interest to you.

Didn’t Believe It Til I Saw IT5
Bought this lens with the idea that if it didn’t perform to a professional standard, I’d return it. I LOVE the security I get from Amazon with the 30 day return policy.

Long story short, I’ve shot about 200 floral shots close up and macro equivalent. Virtually all are keepers–and I’ve already committed a number to gallery wrap canvas in 16×24 prints from Mpix. Got them today and they are, in short, phenomenal.

I am still debating the Nikon 12-24 2.8 as I use both a D90 and D700 to maximize my focal lengths given I have 20 or so Nikon lenses ranging in age from 2009 vintage to 1975 glass.

All are great and I have three other Sigma lenses as well–none is as fun and accurate as this one. When time permits and budget allows, I’ll do a comparison of the Nikon 12-24 but let’s face it–it cost three times as much and is generally considered Nikon’s tour de force.

If you buy this f3.5 Sigma, I cannot imagine you will be anything but happy.

Good luck–I will be looking for additional feedback.

Members of his hometown orchestra include young Anne (Andrea Corr) and her unmarried grumpy piano-playing mother Maisie (Charlotte Bradley) . Word comes round that John-Joe’s long estranged brother Jimmy (Colm Meaney) has a band from Liverpool, a band that includes Liverpudlian types including young and glowing flautist Teddy (Shaun Evans) and is aimed in the direction of the Festival to compete. In graceful Irish tradition the two mutually wrathful brothers try to sabotage each other’s appearance, but alas they both advance face to face in the competition. With Jimmy’s arrival we witness that Maisie’s negative outlook comes from the fact that Jimmy is the one who wantonly got her pregnant and Anne is Jimmy’s daughter. Maisie is forced to admit to Anne her betrayal of ancestry news and the mother/daughter relationship is strained to the breaking point.

Anne and Teddy (naturally) topple for each other and the two of them settle to return to Liverpool after the festival ends with neither’s band the winner. This development is threatening to Maisie and she finally confronts Jimmy with her pent up resentment and disappointment. How the young ones cope with their status and emotions and choose the quandary of distance is the finale of this sweet anecdote and is best left to the viewer to glimpse.

The acting is homogeneously shapely with the comedy and drama in magnificent balance. And oh the music! Director John Irvin has created a slight jewel of a film that warms the proverbial cockles of your heart. Grady Harp, September 05

Brother against brother is the overarching theme of this gem of a movie, but the driving force throughout is its music. I’ve always enjoyed Irish music, but until watching this film, I had never heard of a ceili band. Now I’ll be on the lookout for a CD or two.

Oh yeah, the brother against brother thing? It’s a conflict that’s contested through music, in this case the annual Ceili Band Contest. Two brothers, John Joe, the older one stayed on the farm in Ireland, while Jimmy left for Liverpool shortly after getting his girlfriend pregnant. After 26 years of estrangement, Jimmy returns to the ceili competition with his band, hoping to interrupt the two year championship reign of John Joe’s band. Avoiding the fray thus far is a third brother Padjo, a missionary priest off in Africa. At least we contemplate Padjo has been avoiding the fray.

John Joe (Bernard Hill from the Lord of the Rings series) is a man at peace with himself and his music, although not so worthy at peace that he can’t reply to the imminent arrival of his sibling’s band with a delaying dirty trick or two. His band includes the scorned girlfriend of his brother, Maisie, and her daughter, Ann (luminously played by Andrea Corr of The Corrs musical group) .

Jimmy (Colm Meaney from The Commitments and The Snapper, two other worthy Irish movies) has led a materially prosperous life in Liverpool that’s been somewhat emotionally bereft; as evidenced by his fretful attitude and his multiple ex-wives. His band features a mix of frail pro musicians along with some young talent that provokes his ire with an occasional foray into jazz.

The bands succor as musical Montagues and Capulets, as Ann meets and falls in savor with Teddy (Shaun Evans) . Ann has never met her father, and Maisie would have never arrive to the competition had she known that Jimmy would be there.

Well then, brotherly conflict, an embittered fallen woman of a clear age, a young woman conflicted about the father she never knew, and young lovers from different factions of a competition… is that enough to hold your interest?

To be unbiased though, you could almost ignore the successful efforts of a first-rate cast and a mammoth epic that is well told, because the music is unbelievable! I haven’t felt this proper since I saw “Brassed Off” (a similar movie about a brass band competition England) . And as John Joe remarks at one point, “if you have the music… you’re never alone.”
