I admire this show

Futurama is so inviting and so droll at times that it manages to be dusky, cynical, humorous and uplifting all in the same episode, as in The Luck Of The Fryish. That episode and many other truly clever and comical stories are included in this station. Matt Groening’s vision that technology improves with time, but people rarely do is alive and well in the 22 episodes in this location. Many classic as well as grade-B science fiction themes are explored with hilarious results, such as in Godfellas and Amazon Women In The Mood respectively. The expose gives large comedic treatment to ideas seen in countless SF movies, TV shows and stories from the past. Episodes in this situation range from first-rate to great; there are no poor ones.

Extra features such as commentary by creator Matt Groening and deleted scenes accomplish the status a special treat. John Woo holds the distinction, not only of being the top director of actions films, probably in the history of the cinema, but of having made the quintessential movie of the genre. “The Killer,” made in 1989, is quite simply, the perfect action film. Featuring an outstanding performance by star Yun-fat Chow, as Jeff, the killer of the title, it is a showcase of the specific action sequences by which the standard for the entire industry has since been formulated. But what makes it truly powerful, is that the chronicle lives up to the action, as well. Chow is a professional killer who accidentally blinds a young singer, named Jennie (Sally Yeh), during the fulfillment of a contract. Filled with remorse over the incident, he befriends her, and ultimately begins to care deeply for her. Up to this point in his life, he has killed people he believed deserving of their fate, but now he’s changed; he’s beginning to comprehend the sanctity of life. There is one more contract he must fulfill, however, for which he is to be paid one-and-a-half million dollars, after which he will retire from the life and gape to it that Jennie gets the cornea transplant that will restore her vision. Further conflict arises, though, when the man who hired Jeff decides to have him killed as well, thereby saving him some money, and tying up what he considers to be some loose ends in the bargain. Never before, or since, has such obscene violence been so well integrated into the anecdote, in any film; and Woo’s sense of measure is impeccable. The violence is only as graphic as critical, in order to be effective in any given scene, and the gunfights are choreographed with such precision and timing that it’s like a kind of visual poetry. Woo, in fact, has given a lyrical, almost wistful feel, overall, to the film, which accentuates the inequity between the romance and the violence even more. His deft exercise of dull motion in the action sequences, and imagery (especially in the scenes which recall state in a church), are further examples of the artistry and detail that create this such a vast movie. The care taken with the yarn itself is a rare thing for a film of this genre; not to say that action films, in general, are typically wanting in residence or characterization, but in most cases, more often than not the sage does defer to the action. But not in this one. Jeff’s epiphany, for instance, and his feelings for Jennie, are played without the least bit of misplaced sentiment or pretentiousness, for which credit must be given to Woo and his stars; in the hands of lesser talent, it could all have easily played out as maudlin and sappy, and been aged as nothing more than a framework upon which to create the action. The supporting cast includes Kenneth Tsang, Chu Kong, and Danny Lee, who gives an especially impressive performance as Lieutenant Li. “The Killer,” is simply nothing less than the definitive film of it’s genre, the “Citizen Kane,” if you will, of action films. Even given the subjective nature of cinema, this film is so well done, and Woo has obviously made such an impact in his field, that it must be considered as one among the all-time sizable movies in the history of film. This is a must-have for any serious video collection.

Beware the dubbed version!!!!! Obtain distinct you gain the subtitled version, as the dubbed one cuts out OVER HALF of the action. Trust me, I have seen both versions.

This dvd is amazingly comic - even what may be perceived as the weaker episodes have their pretty moments. If you’re a fan of Wallace & Gromit or objective a fan of humorous animation, this dvd is for you. The format has no clear myth line, but rather is a topical discussion - kind of like Dr. Doolittle meets Oprah. Addressing such questions as “Where do we reach from? “, “Are there aliens? ” and “Cats vs. Dogs” - these installments will leave you in stitches. The animation is flawless, the interview editing valid. Fair an overall delight.

This DVD, containing 13 unusual episodes of Creature Comforts is a joy to contemplate. Like the fresh, it features claymation engrossing animals speaking dialogue taken from interviews of British citizens. The animation is shapely, making the characters really advance alive. The humor is typically dry, and like Wallace and Gromit, you will probably either worship it or disapprove it, with no in between. Baz Luhrmann at his finest. This terrific film is really three movies in one. First, there’s the colossal dance movie whcih centers on Scott Hastings (Paul Mecurio) and his struggles to introduce ‘new steps’ to the sheltered world of Austrailian ballroom dancing. For dance afficiandos, despite the tremendous comedy that infuses the movie, the dancing is the loyal thing. Mecurio is a formally trained dancer and you simply can’t untrue, edit, or body-double the moves he pulls off in this film. Even if you’re not a dancer, Mecurio’s athletiscism alone is worth seeing.

The second movie is a Dirty Dancing-style, boy-meets-ugly-duckling story. The epic allows you to observe slow the covers of a first generation Australian and her awkward attempts to fit into a original culture while maintaining her European ties at home.

The third movie is what sets Strictly Ballroom apart from the field - tremendously laughable, tremendous caricatures squabbling around the periphery of Scott and his struggle to bring his ‘new steps’ to the Pan-Pacific Championships. Pat Thompson is hysterical as Doug’s mother Shirley, and Bill Hunter is wonderfully over-the-top as dancing kingmaker Barry Fife (’There are no current steps!’) . To hold this film seriously is to miss out on one of the expansive moviegoing/ moviewatching experiences of the past 15 years.

In a nutshell, an up-and-coming champion ballroom dancer gets bored dancing the same tired steps that everyone has danced in competition the past 50 years and wants to wreck out and do things his draw. Of course, his device is the better method, but that causes all the angst, high drama, dashed hopes and narrate hilarity that ensues as forces clash to prevent the young man from taking the ballroom dancing world by storm and up to a original level.

Paul’s mother — beautifully and hysterically portrayed by Pat Thomson — and his seemingly introverted, unusual father — a wonderfully giddy Barry Otto — are perfectly realized, as are all the other roles, including Bill Hunter’s terrifically change-resistant Barry Fife, president of the dance federation.

This is probably Baz Luhrmann’s most mainstream movie, since it’s more firmly grounded in the now than anything else he’s done.

Be on the lookout for a magnificent cinematic moment during an outdoor sequence at the girl’s house with the lead learning from her father how to correctly dance the Paso Dobles. When it’s sure he’s gotten the hang of it, the camera does a closeup on him turning and then cuts to an oncoming notify, that parallels the house, sweeping down the lower moral of the cloak. It’s one of those Luhrmann touches that status him apart from most other working directors.

“Strictly Ballroom” is a unbelievable entertainment that flows along so fast..and has dramatic highs…and even more thrilling dancing highs…that most of you will be very sorry when it’s over.

NUDTY!!!The clothes advance off speedy and often. Wow. The best something wierd video I’ve ever seen. Pleasant looking girls tremendous boobs, lots of bush. Its vast! Both movies have alot of nudity even some snappily spread eagle shots. The second film ends with a nude beauty pagent. All the girls from the movie come by naked! Corpulent Frontal. The sex is lame and very groundless softcore, sept for alittle snappily guy to girl oral. As far as legend, lots of lame jokes and unimaginative plots. But it didn’t matter cause all these girls like to score naked. Highly recommended!

Ah, where to start with Tobacco Roody. One of the more underrated films of 1971, this hillbillies-n-hayseeds flick nevertheless deserves its contain special status in ’70’s rural americana pop culture. I have never seen a movie quite like it and likely never will again. A very exclusive but ultimately luscious film, it manages to somehow be charming despite its shoestring budget ( Hey, you gotta esteem any movie that features the opening credits in paint on the side of a barn!) and features a wonderfully silly-for-the-sake-of-being-silly script.

Basically, the movie traces the events in a single afternoon in the lives of a group of country bumpkins in the cramped, rural, West Tennessee farming community of Tobacco Roody, whose horniness and libidoes are exceeded only by their sheer stupidity. Among the host of characters are main protagonist Farmer Mose, his niece Tootie whom he displays lascivious (and incestuous) affections towards, his bored wife and two sapphic-tendencied daughters, an easily distracted sheriff, a trio of brain-dead hayseeds and even an inexplicable French tourist girl (!?!) for worthy measure.

Somehow these characters all approach together in this zany situation, if it can truly be called that. Of course, it all amounts to LOADS of bare skin and some surprisingly graphic sex scenes. In fact, there’s so powerful nudity and sex in this film that one get’s the impression that there’s not very mighty else to do in Tobacco Roody but pick up liquored-up and effect cherish, aside from farming and making moonshine. It’s not exactly porn, per se, but it’s splendid damn conclude. Easily earns its X-rating.

So what made this film work for me? Well, aside from the prerquisite gobs of nudity, it also has a charming, unmistakeable early ’70’s vibe, some genuinely comic scenes, some really stupidly amusing lines and is also hilighted by a very apt soundtrack featuring several Johnny Cash songs. The dvd is a nice one, too, and the video transfer is an impressive one. The movie hardly shows its age and I never once got the impression that I was watching a truly shoddy or poorly-made motion portray. For a low-budget movie, it is actually made quite well and you can hiss the filmmakers build a sure sense of fun into making it.

If you like to laugh and don’t mind the occasional insult to your intelligence, do yourself a favor and spy Tobacco Roody. You might lose a dinky bit of respect for yourself afterwards, but chances are you’ll have had a fun time doing so.

With ‘heroes’ who were certainly not well-behaved, a mission that would require a level of cruelty film audiences had never before seen from American fighting men, and graphic language and bloodshed, the impact of the the film was both immediate (despite mammoth ‘box office’, many critics panned the film as ‘disturbing’ and glorifying violence), and continuing (influencing films as diverse as “Patton” and “Saving Private Ryan”) . It can be viewed at many levels, as a crackling expedient adventure fable, an ‘anti-establishment’ and anti-war statement, the ultimate ‘buddy’ film…few films have generated as remarkable controversy, or stood the passage of time, better!

Based on E.M. Nathanson’s recent (of rumored ‘Death Row’ convicts offered a pardon or reduction of sentence for volunteering for a suicide mission), with a colossal lag of the Pathfinders’ legendary “Filthy Thirteen” of WWII tossed in, the property was purchased as a potential starring vehicle for John Wayne. The Duke passed on the project, however (choosing to fabricate “The Green Berets”, instead) . Director Aldrich never envisioned Wayne in the lead, preferring WWII Marine vet Lee Marvin in the complex role of maverick Maj. John Reisman, and the actor, modern from winning an Oscar for “Cat Ballou”, was dead-on perfect in the fraction. Musty stars Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Ralph Meeker, Robert Webber, George Kennedy, and Richard Jaeckel were cast as Marvin’s military allies and adversaries.

For the “Front Six” of the Dozen, spiteful Charles Bronson (another WWII vet), John Cassavetes (who would garner an Oscar nomination), Telly Savalas (in the most ‘whacked-out’ role in his career), Clint Walker (of “Cheyenne” TV fame), football narrative Jim Brown (in only his second film), and accepted singer Trini Lopez (in his film debut) would dominate the hide time, with a “Attend Six” of character actors in powerful smaller roles, simply filling out the rest of the twelve parts. But a movie ‘miracle’ occurred; when Walker objected to a scene where, as a bogus ‘General’, he would idiotically review an Airborne unit (feeling it demeaned Native Americans, who his character portrayed), Aldrich passed the scene to “Serve Six” actor Donald Sutherland…and the scene would spectacularly originate his career, leading to his starring role in “M.A.S.H.”

Aldrich’s meticulous shooting style, and the often rainy British weather (where the film was shot), more than doubled the shooting schedule, and after seven months on site, Trini Lopez (on the advice of friend Frank Sinatra), informed Aldrich and the producers that he was missing singing dates, and would need a pay hike to continue. To Lopez’ surprise, Aldrich ‘dropped’ him, having him die in the climactic parachute descend!

The director was warned that if he didn’t eliminate the film’s most controversial scene (pouring gasoline and dropping grenades on the women guests, as well as the Nazi officers seeking refuge in the bomb shelters), he would lose any chance of a ‘Best Director’ Oscar. After soul-searching, he left the scene in (”War is Hell, and HAS to be portrayed that blueprint”), and while he sacrificed the prize, Robert Aldrich gave the film a brutal honesty that subsequent wars would sadly verify.

“The Dirty Dozen” survived contemporary criticism, and has proven to be one of the most enduring war films of all time, as unusual today as when it debuted in 1967.

Wow…this HD presentation captures everything, including (grand maligned) film grain. It is most likely a better presentation than this film had when originally released to theaters. Visuals are wonderfully positive, the print is exceptionally neat and the sound, for a movie almost 40 years dilapidated, is top shelf. This is definitely the version to possess!!

The one thing I can complain of is that the production execute is kind of dated now. Action films have evolved so great in the past decade that watching ALDDS 12 years on can be a bit distracting. Wayans (who also directs as well as writing and starring) too often shoots non-actions scenes like a sitcom and his light-hearted editing may support remind you that this totally AIN’T a serious film but it’s a petite TV-ish if you know what I mean.

If you gain ALDDS for cheap somewhere or if it’s showing on TV then don’t con yourself out of a fun movie. High art is not what this film aims to be.

The DVD has a slightly soft 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer with a Dolby 5.1 sound manufacture. There are zero extras.

Keenan plays a down and out PI named Shame, with his wanna be PI Assistant Peaches (played by Jada Pinkett) . Exosquad - Season 1 is the first of two seasons from the interesting USA Network series that debuted in 1993 and will be followed by three more 2-disc sets totaling 52 episodes.

True this happened while Babylon 5 was aloof going on, BUT the reason i wrote that as portion of the title is that this demonstrate is dramatically vivid for an interesting series in the morning. For me this beat X-men on Saturdays. It beats X-men for it had a beginning middle and kill, a strong structure for fable telling…aside from that tid bit in the final episode…fans you know what I am talking about. The animation may not be as crisp as 90s Batman, but you have to give them the props for the detail they were puting in the character’s manufacture and the produce of the ships while bringing to life serious scenes and action sequences. If you haven’t seen this exhibit and are a fan of spellbinding series in action, adventure, and down to earth characters and sci-fi political drama…you will be overjoyed for what it was doing at its time. Such a note should not be forgotten. If you are a fan of comedy then this is not for you. To those fans of X-men, GI Joe, to the battlestar Galactica and yes my fav B5…do check this out. This program will be splendid when it can be watched uninterrupted by commercials. It is almost a meditation on the awesome splendor out there. Awesome is a word that has lost mighty of its value these days but this program invokes apprehension. I can’t wait to attach the headphones on and travel into the interstellar spaces. After watching it I found it a dependable challenge to balance the depressing things going on down here with the billion year beauty out there. Heavenly graphics, apt narration, it weaves a spell. Thank you National Geographic I have waited years for a program like this. This is what computer graphics were made for.

This documentary is, hands down, the most well made documentary on the Universe I have ever seen. I have been watching Discovery Channel and other channels like it since I was a child.

I’ve seen a thousand documentaries on our universe. Nothing even comes terminate to this. I have spent many years contemplating our location in the universe both from religious and philosophical standpoints. I can honestly say that this documentary has played a pivotal role in shaking me out of my “bubble” on how I idea nearly everything. After first seeing it on National Geographic, I spent months thinking about it. When I gawk out at the Ocean now I am aware of who I am and where we really are.

When you accomplish this video, you will trail away from it with an awareness that you never had before, of the unseen astronomically massive universe that we float around on like a spec of dust in the ocean. The most shiny and panic inviting thing about it, is that its all completely accurate. This video takes you on a hump through the universe as if you are watching a Sci Fi adventure. Yet you constantly have to remind yourself that what you’re seeing is really out there. This is all fact.
